It is THE best Institute for Mass Communication in India. Sure, it does have some flaws like all government Institutes, but the level of education imparted to the students more than makes up for it! The faculty are top notch with lots of experience behind them and the AD and PR faculties are just superb! Remember, MICA cannot be compared to it, because that's a management Institute (offers communication management program similar to MBA, and is of two years, whereas in IIMC, they focus on Core Communications, and is of 1 year taking in the internship period) and IIMC is a COMMUNICATION institute. The teachers here have a legacy of their own and if you are willing to walk that extra mile, the teachers will go out of their way in helping you achieve your dream! Lastly, for all the aspirants out there, get into the habit of reading, VORACIOUSLY! Of your interest, from sports, to business, economics, political, social, technology, etc because in IIMC there will be tons of reading that one has to do in his free time and the more habituated you are, the better it is for you. One Year in IIMC is an investment in your future! I am currently pursuing AD and PR from IIMC (14-15 BATCH)
